This retelling emphasizes Jesus as Israel's Messiah and God's Son and reveals the religious authorities as self-righteous, while the disciples are seen as spiritually immature. There is irony in the authorities' ``victory,'' which leads to Jesus' triumph, and there is success in the disciples' growth and maturity.
