Wolf (geography, Oregon State U.) provides an introductory chapter to the 54 papers he selected from various journals and books as representative of ongoing efforts to deal with conflict connected with water resource allocation. The papers span about half a century, but most were published in the 1990s. Case studies focus on the human dynamics of the conflict and the impact of the conflict on various interest groups and economic sectors, and legal and political boundaries. Examining conflicts at both the local and international level, the papers consider environmental aspects of water use, conflicts and cooperation, institutional approaches, and the study of the issues from the perspectives of law, economics, engineering, political economy, geography, and other disciplines.
