Synopsis
This text is based on a year-long ethnographic study of a multiracial high school in Durban, conducted by Dolby (education, No. Illinois U.) in 1996. The author explores how modern youth make meaning of the idea of race. She examines the new dynamics of economy, culture and identity in the 21st century, and emphasizes the need for a new approach to culture, race, and identity in contemporary, industrialized countries.
