Synopsis

Touch and feel elements on each page of this sturdy board book will give children hours of playtime as they touch each animal and mimic the action in this lushly illustrated board book by bestselling author Marcus Pfister.

Children's Literature

Marcus Pfister of Rainbow Fish fame has created a touch and feel board book featuring a new character, a cute duck named Charlie. When Charlie goes to the zoo, he likes to imitate animals and not surprisingly so do a number of kids. In this outing Charlie opens his mouth wide just like a hippo, sticks out his tongue just like a chameleon, balances a ball like a seal, sways like an orangutan and flops out on the branch just like a leopard. The pictures are soft-toned watercolors realistically depicting the animals in their zoo habitats, but Charlie, who appears on every left-hand page and occasionally in the right-hand scene with the zoo animals is the show stealer. He is a character I am sure will appear in other books. The extra added element is the touch and feel sections for each of the featured animals—rough skin of a hippo, sleek soft skin of the seal and the furry, long hair of the orangutan.
