Children's Literature
Marcus Pfister of Rainbow Fish fame has created a touch and feel board book featuring a new character, a cute duck named Charlie. When Charlie goes to the zoo, he likes to imitate animals and not surprisingly so do a number of kids. In this outing Charlie opens his mouth wide just like a hippo, sticks out his tongue just like a chameleon, balances a ball like a seal, sways like an orangutan and flops out on the branch just like a leopard. The pictures are soft-toned watercolors realistically depicting the animals in their zoo habitats, but Charlie, who appears on every left-hand page and occasionally in the right-hand scene with the zoo animals is the show stealer. He is a character I am sure will appear in other books. The extra added element is the touch and feel sections for each of the featured animalsrough skin of a hippo, sleek soft skin of the seal and the furry, long hair of the orangutan.
