Overview
Volume XI of the Dutch Colonial Manuscripts comprises the correspondence of Petrus Stuyvesant, during the first six years (1647-53) of his 17-year tenure as director general of New Netherland, from the final years of the war with Spain through the first war with England. Stuyvesant became director general of the possessions of the West India Company at age 36 and is known for helping stabilize the boundary with New England, resolving the dispute with the patroonship of Rensselaerswijck, and neutralizing Swedish influence in the Delaware. Gehring is director of the New York State Library's New Netherland Project. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, ORBook Details
