Synopsis

From AudioFile Produced as an audio program, not a live radio show, these lengthy conversations between David Cayley and ex-priest Ivan Illich (not to be confused with Tolstoy's Illich) are organized those into 10 topics. A longtime host for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation, Cayley has a clear tenor voice that is the very sound of gravitas. Illich, who has critiqued the modern world in widely read books, including DE-SCHOOLING SOCIETY, possesses a strong accent and is a not a professional speaker, but his words are always understandable. Cayley does a great job writing and narrating the introductory pieces wherein the context is set and Illich's ideas are introduced. His conversation with Illich is lively. The title refers to both the corruption of Christianity and the corruption that comes from Christianity. M.L.C. Β© AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine-- Copyright Β© AudioFile, Portland, Maine
