We'll explore Cost a Rica's beaches and tropical rain forests, listen to the marimba, and try a plate of gallo pinto. A special section introduces Costa Rica's capital, language, population, and flag. Hop on board and take a fun-filled look at your world.

Children's Literature

Aimed at young listeners, this book nonetheless serves as a lively introduction to the country of Costa Rica because of its bright, full-color, well-captioned photographs and its colloquial and snappy text. Each double page spread covers a topic: first people, a jungle train, city life, school days, food, music, or sea turtles. A few sentences are accompanied by several illustrations or boxes containing extra information. Specialized vocabulary in a bold, black font refers readers to a glossary but makes the text look more textbook than the words would suggest. Suggestions for more books to read include other textbooks and nonfiction. An index is included. A good sourcebook for elementary Spanish language classes and a fine addition to the shelf about living in other countries. "A Ticket to..." series.
