The Internet Library series introduces readers to safe uses of the Internet through examples and simple explanations. A character named Web introduces information throughout the series. In Creating E-Reports and Online Presentations, readers follow Web as he gathers information about volcanoes from the Internet, locates and adds visuals, creates original graphics, and puts together a final electronic report. Readers learn about reports and report writing as well as properly citing sources and creating attractive presentations. Safe Surfing on the Internet explains Acceptable Use Policies in easy-to-understand language and discusses the reasons behind national laws and school rules. It also deals with e-mail use, spam, copyright, and plagiarism. The author assumes that it is easier to follow laws or rules if one understands the rationale behind them. Written for a young audience, these books are quite readable, contain useful information, have interesting charts and illustrations, and mention several intriguing Web sites. It might be difficult, however, to find an audience for them. Perhaps students who have missed computer instruction in class would find useful information. Teachers might use these as guides for lessons to teach the concepts. Adults who are not comfortable with the Internet could learn a great deal. These books would be an excellent source for independent projects or homeschoolers. Although the many Internet addresses cited are interesting, they could create a problem as the links become inactive. Other titles in the series cover communicating, researching, creating animation for Web pages, and adding photos, music, and video to Web pages.
