About the Author, Alberto Korda

Alberto Korda was born Alberto Díaz Gutiérrez in Havana, 1928 - the same year as Ernesto Che Guevara. Their fates were entwined as Korda's portrait of the Argentine became his most famous photograph. Starting out as a fashion photographer, Korda became "one of the primary documentarians of a socialist revolution." He died May 25, 2001, and was buried in Cuba.
