Synopsis
This text aims to provide a comprehensive account of western cultural studies, including summaries and discussions of its main arguments and sites of intellectual inquiry. Barker (affiliation not cited) emphasizes the ideas of theorists (some of whom would not necessarily describe themselves as working within cultural studies), rather than context-specific empirical work. Particular attention has been paid to the kind of cultural studies influenced by poststructuralist theories of language, representation, and subjectivity. The volume concludes with an extensive glossary of terms. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
