Children's Literature - Michael Jung PhD

Everyone's favorite, fourth-wall breaking, mouse returns in Jennifer and Matthew Holm's thirteenth "Babymouse" graphic novel. After Babymouse's careless daydreaming results in a catastrophic accident that destroys most of her school library's books, Babymouse takes part in the school's cupcake sale to raise money to replace the books. Unfortunately, her good intentions go awry when the sale turns into a heated competition between Babymouse and her wealthy rival Felicia Furpaws as they try to outsell each other and win a special "mystery prize" from their school. Can Babymouse come up with a way to sell the most cupcakes? And more importantly, can she remember the real reason she is trying to raise money? Fans of the sweet-but-self absorbed Babymouse will find the usual affable silliness in these pages as Babymouse argues with the narrator, wallows in self-pity, and wanders through multiple dream scenarios where she plays Indiana Jones and Rumplestiltskin-type characters. Great light reading for kids. Reviewer: Michael Jung, PhD
