Children's Literature
Curious George has entered the world of merchandisingbedding, birthday cards, backpacks, and baby rompers. New titles of Curious George in the style of Margret and H.A. Rey have been issued since 1998 to keep the character license healthy. The books have the same cheerful yellow, blue, and red palette. George is still curious; the man still wears a yellow hat. The series of "New Adventures" are twenty-four-page picture books. The original Curious George books are lengthy (forty-eight to eighty pages) early readers. Despite the branding, Curious George in the Snow manages to capture the flavor of both the illustrations and the stories of the originals. George and the man in the yellow hat visit a ski resort. George cannot resist hopping in a toboggan, slaloming on a broken ski, and whizzing down the slope in a pizza pan. His curiosity gets him in trouble, as always, but he inadvertently helps the owner of the broken ski to win the big race. For fans not yet ready to tackle the early readers, the "New Adventures of Curious George" bridge the gap nicely. Reviewer: Candice Ransom
