In this story, Curious George is learning to count. He and the man with the yellow hat want a special treat for Saturday—donuts and eggs. There are no eggs, and George is asked to write down zero but he does not know how. Then the lesson begins with an introduction to the concept of zero and multiplication by 10s. The lesson is absorbed, but when George is sent to the bakery to get donuts, he decides that 1 dozen is not enough because no one has explained what a dozen is. Newly armed with numerical information, George ads a zero, but he figures that 10 still is not enough so he adds yet another zero. Well, 100 dozen donuts is quite an order and George has quite a time when the bakery delivers them. He stashes them all over the house. The solution sends an encouraging message about sharing. The last two pages have more exercises to teach place values. The book is a useful adjunct to teaching multiplication and place values but not a starting point.
