Arguing that the period since 1905 has been marked by legislation and regulation which breach the spirit and letter of the U.K.'s international legal obligations in regard to refugees, the editors have gathered 18 contributions which explore the topic from academic, legal practice, non- governmental, medical, and community spheres. All the papers originated from a conference on Refugee Rights and Realities at the U. of Nottingham on November 30, 1996. The papers are organized into two sections which examine both legal issues of recognition of asylum as well as obligations to those so recognized.
