Overview

David Seymour (1911-1956) became a photographer when upheaval in Europe dashed his dreams of studying science at the Sorbonne. He helped to redefine photojournalism with his humanistic coverage of world events from the Spanish Civil War to the Suez Crisis. A founder of Magnum Photos with Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson and George Rodger, Seymour was tragically killed by enemy fire while covering the Suez Crisis in 1956.
