Griffith's fun gross-out adventure novel follows Zack Freeman, who awakens to see his rear end leaping out the window to lead a bum rally. Zack's butt urges bums to "assume our rightful positions on top of the neck." Zack searches for the "one person who can stop [the plan]," the Bum Hunter, and in the process meets up with legendary bum fighters like the Kisser and the Smacker-plus the Bum Hunter's tough daughter, Eleanor. As the team tries to stop the bums from erupting a disgusting bumcano (hint: it's not filled with lava), they encounter a stink tornado, swimming poopoises, the Stenchgantor, "also known as the Great Unwiped Butt"-and a traitor in their midst. Though Zack finally tells his bum, "Well, maybe if I'd taken better care of you... you might not have gone psycho in the first place," kids will gleefully discover there's no great lesson learned here. Some of Griffith's details are hilarious (a fluffy pink toilet seat cover is the perfect tool for trapping bums, who "are powerless to resist them"), others plain disgusting (Zack and Eleanor hitch a ride on an exploding bum pimple), but young readers will likely get a kick out of it all (there's even a glossary included). The Barnes & Noble ReviewTuckuses are raising a ruckus in this totally butt-crazy adventure from bestselling Aussie writer Andy Griffiths.
When Zack Freeman wakes up one morning, he's horrified to see his butt making an escape out the window, toward a midnight rear-end rally. Curious to see what his can is up to, Zack learns that the world's butts are staging a revolution -- they mean to take their rightful place on humans' bodies (on top), and his own butt is leading the effort! Soon, the buttless boy has joined forces with the counterrevolutionary B-Team, and the squad is making its way across the Great Windy Desert, through the Brown Forest, and to a brimming Buttcano, where all of the butts are gathering to launch themselves around the globe. Unfortunately, though, there's a traitor among the B-Team crew, and who's really behind the butts' war cries? Zack doesn't have much time before we're all permanently rearranged!
Packed with plenty of action and gross-out humor, this fast-paced novel will leave kids rolling in the aisles. Stenchgantor (the Great Unwiped Butt) and oozing butt pimples are just a couple of the treats in store, while back-of-the-book tips on responsible butt ownership and butt security will help young readers soothe their own potentially grumbling rumps. While not necessarily for high-brow literary types, The Day My Butt Went Psycho! is a seriously silly read for kids who love to laugh. Matt Warner
