Overview

A Baptist minister in Reading, England, Sheppy addresses death from theological and liturgical perspectives, with the understanding that neither theology nor liturgy are ever isolated activities. Theology, he says, is inevitably an exercise within or reacting against tradition, and so engages with others as well as with God. Likewise, liturgy is a communal experience, and beyond the texts lies the worship of the Christian community. The second volume reviews current Christian funeral rites and analyzes how they fit into concerns of both the church and society. Annotation Β©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
