The book’s vast scope encompasses all skin disease processes—inflammatory, non-inflammatory, infections, and proliferations (harmatomas, hyperplasias, and neoplasms, plus disorders of nails and oral mucosa).

Editorials

From The Critics

Reviewer: Barbara M. Egbert, MD(VA Palo Alto Health Care System)
Description: This multiauthored textbook of dermatopathology covers the most important aspects of this field, from inflammatory diseases to neoplastic diseases. Tables are used to list the salient features of many entities.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide descriptive histopathology with a differential diagnosis.
Audience: The book is intended for practicing dermatopathologists, dermatologists, pathologists, and those in allied specialties. The lead author is a world-class dermatopathologist.
Features: In addition to the most important subjects in dermatopathology, this book adds sections on oral mucosa and nails. It also has an appendix on molecular techniques for diagnosing lymphoma by an expert in the field. Melanocytic lesions are well covered. The tables of key points are helpful. The book could use even more photomicrographs and some could be larger. Another minor shortcoming that could be improved is the staining in some of the photomicrographs, which is variable even on the same page at times.
Assessment: This is an excellent textbook of dermatopathology in a highly competitive field, and having several is helpful. The major competition comes from Pathology of the Skin: With Clinical Correlations, 3rd edition, McKee et al. (Elsevier, 2005), and Weedon's Skin Pathology, 3rd edition, Weedon (Elsevier, 2010). These books have more illustrations and more clinical detail.

5 Stars! from Doody
