Children's Literature -
Hand older students Miranda MacQuitty's Desert for details on geology, wildlife, ecology and ecological problems. Youngsters will find Ms. MacQuitty's richly photo-illustrated "Eyewitness Book" particularly useful for its introduction to Middle Eastern and North African desert dwellers, as well as plants and animals from deserts around the world.School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-An attractive title that features photographs and drawings of flora and fauna, mainly of the deserts of northern Africa and the Middle East. Examples from the American Southwest and Australia are included, but not Arctic, Antarctic, or high-elevation regions. Brief explanatory paragraphs accompany the illustrations, which average five to a page, but they are in small type. The information is limited, but what is here-with its emphasis on camels and clothing and artifacts of Arabian people-is interesting and generally well presented. A browser's delight.-George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, SpringfieldBook Details
