Children's Literature - Children's Literature

This resource book provides information about the desert lands of the world which amazingly comprise one third of the earth's surface. Often a neglected area as far as children's books are concerned, this well-research book includes discussions about grasslands, prairies, Savannahs, the Steppes and the peoples, and the plants and animals which inhabit them. The layout is interesting with colorful drawings, maps and photos accompanying each area. There is a special "closer look" within each area that presents an interesting tidbit geared to children. A glossary and index are included. The book is one of fourteen in the "Closer Look" series. A nice addition to the school library. 2000 (orig. 1998), Copper Beech Books, Ages 7 to 10, $21.90. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger
