Overview

The primary purpose of this book is to fulfill the conventional role of a textbook, namely, to assist students in absorbing the material presented in class. This means it should free students from the traditional chore of dutifully copying each word and number from the blackboard, so that they can concentrate on understanding the difficult material instead.

Booknews

A textbook for a one-semester senior course on reinforced concrete design that Meyer has taught at Columbia for 15 years. Also includes some material he has never been able to fit into the course, such as torsion, slab design, footings, and retaining walls. Provides a glossary without pronunciation. The problems are designed to encourage thinking rather than applying formula. Computers are not incorporated on the theory that they are easier to add later than to do without later. Annotation c.
