Synopsis

Village Homes is a community outside Davis, California built between 1975 and 1981, on 60 acres offering extensive commons, community gardens, narrow streets, pedestrian and bike paths, solar homes, and an innovative ecological drainage system. The Corbetts are residents and were involved in the design, development, and building of the community. They examine the history of the sustainable communities movement, offer a look at the development of Village Homes through the years, and then look at other sustainable communities, both existing and proposed, in such places as Coffee Creek Center, Indiana; Davisville, California; Civano, Arizona; Prairie Crossing, Illinois; and Haymount, Virginia.
