Synopsis
This book combines a review of current research with original research by contributors, addressing issues in the development of cognitive abilities in children and in individual variations in development that arise from both normal and pathological sources. Discussion centers on the assessment of achievement skills in children, developmental changes in social skills, the importance of executive function skills in the development of cognitive abilities, and the development of communication skills and reading abilities. Some specific topics include individual differences in the development of social communication competency in very low birthweight children, naming abilities in children with brain tumors, and patterns of language development through augmented means in youth with mental retardation.
