Overview

Developments in British Politics 4 is an entirely new textbook designed to continue the tradition of authoritative, up-to-date and theoretically informed analysis established by its predecessors. Written by a new team of expert authors, it provides a comprehensive introduction to British politics under John Major. As previously, the first part concentrates on the political system, the second on the major areas of public policy and the third consists of chapters on current issues - this time focusing on the media, race and immigration, and the impact of the Thatcher decade on trade unions and other organised interests. A concluding chapter assesses the relationship between political theory and British politics. Key innovations in this volume include more systematic treatment of the impact of the European Community, and a chapter on the territorial politics of the United Kingdom.
