Diabetes by Peacock is part of the Perspectives on Disease and Illness series. Designed as a teaching book, the book's chapter overviews, case studies, important facts, and points to consider are highlighted in purple blocks. The general format using short chapters makes this title helpful for lower-level students. There is much repetition of facts. Fast Facts, Teen Talk, Did You Know, and At a Glance tidbits appear at the top of many pages. One weakness, however, is the ambivalence in the intended audience. Although seeming to target health classes or the report writer, the writing occasionally slips into "you" statements. This volume contains a short glossary and list of books for further information, but there are useful addresses and Web sites. Glossary. Index. Photos. Further Reading.
