Children's Literature
Diego is off on an Arctic expedition, and kids are asked to help him. The pages look like a scrapbook or journal with pictures of the animals, drawings and information about their characteristics. For example, Arctic hares have fur that changes color with the seasons, Arctic foxes have fur on the bottoms of their feet and Arctic wolves stay white all year long, unlike foxes. The walrus uses its tusks to dig up food, and the narwhale has a single long tusks that does not seem to serve any purpose. There are many more Arctic creatures, and the stickers at the end of the book can be placed on the fold-out map to complete the scene. It is educational and fun, but the focus on the stickers ensures that this book is certainly a personal purchase not appropriate for a library. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
