Children's Literature
This book continues the adventures of Danger Boy, Eli Sands, whose father, Sandusky Sands, discovers in 2019 the rudimentary and capricious secrets of time travel. In the previous book, Ancient Fire, an explosion in Sands' laboratory sends Eli hurtling off into time and space, and lands his mother in San Francisco in 1941. As this book begins, Eli has successfully used his baseball cap to transport himself to San Francisco in 1941. There he is reunited with his mother (for a little while) and meets Joe DiMaggio and newspaper columnist, Herb Caen. But before he can persuade his mother to return to 2019 with him, turmoil propels him into other times and places where he is reunited with old friends Thea and Clyne, unusual allies he met in the first book. Thea comes from Alexandria in a time when pyramids were new. Clyne is a kind-hearted dinosaur from the planet Saur who is trying to learn about his ancestors on earth. They end up with King Arthur as he is about to return his magical sword to the lake. If they stop him, will it change history? And will they survive all the dangers they encounter in the Arthurian past? The book ends, leaving the reader wondering what happens next. Surely there will be a sequel. The author earned a drama degree and "has had a slew of plays produced." He has also scripted comics. This is his second book for children. 2001, Tricycle Press/Ten Speed Press,β Janet Crane Barley
