Synopsis
This graduate textbook introduces the mathematical and computational concepts of contact mechanics and applies the combined finite/discrete element method to complex fracture and flow analysis. Mohammadi (civil engineering, University of Tehran) discusses normal contact algorithms, the theory of frictional contact, contact detection procedures, object representation, and methods for considering the load transfer in crack regions. The CD-ROM contains a limited version of the UTdem discrete element code. The US office of WIT Press is Computational Mechanics. Annotation © 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
