Synopsis

Long underground classics, The Doll and The Doll at Play (the second with poetry by French poet Paul éluard) are two of the strangest visual and poetic texts of modern art. Presenting German artist Hans Bellmer's photography of "the doll," this book combines photos of twisted and bound mannequins with a poetic text by éluard that creates a strange tension between the contorted images and the elusive poetry. "Puffing her cheeks, greedily swallowing a flower, fragrance inner skin, inevitably pink mouth, even on the pediment of the pitch black forest."
