School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-- A succinct look at one of the most beloved first ladies that's full of facts and fine-quality reproductions. Quiri adequately covers the basics of her subject's childhood, first marriage, widowhood, and eventual remarriage to one of America's more prominent presidents. She also includes, commendably, facts about the Madisons' lives after they left Washington. Quite a few human-interest items are given, such as the woman's love of gardening and her pet macaw that she kept at the White House. An attractive and worthwhile addition to biography collections. --Amy Nunley, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, OH
