Overview

Country star, movie star, and entrepreneur, Dolly Parton is an American legend, a woman who makes her own rules--and she's just hitting her stride. With more than 100 black-and-white and color photographs, this lavish volume explores the life and career of one of country music's brightest stars.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born into a sharecropper's family in Sevier County in the Great Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee. Cash was short, but love and music were everywhere--at home, at church, and at family gatherings. By the time she was ten, she was a regular on a Knoxville radio and television show. She made her first recordings at thirteen and performed on the hallowed stage of the Grand Ole Opry by the time she was sixteen.

Dolly got her first big break as "the girl singer" on The Porter Wagoner Show. She finally ventured out on her own, working with big country stars like Kenny Rogers and Emmy Lou Harris. She broke out of the music business with two of her own TV shows as well as several film roles. She even has her own amusement park--Dollywood.
