Children's Literature
Dora and her friend Boots travel through the land of Nursery Rhymes to help Mary's little lamb return to her owner in this installment of the "Dora the Explorer" series. On their way to find Mary, they pass many classic nursery rhymes characters such as Little Miss Muffet, Peter Piper, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Humpty Dumpty, to name a few. The brightly colored cartoon illustrations represent an ethnic variety and can help the pre-reader follow along with the story. As they travel, Dora uses many Spanish words and encourages the reader to say them too, getting them involved in the book. The Spanish words are simple and placed next to the corresponding English word, making a useful classroom tool in schools where Spanish is taught at an early age. With the encouragement of reader participation throughout, it is great book when either reading to a group of children to get them involved and excited or to an individual child for one-on-one interaction.
