Overview

A study of the immense spiritual reading of the Bible, Christian literature, and Oxford Group books done and recommended by Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder, Dr. Robert H. Smith.

From the Author:

The first edition of Dr. Bob's Library was the first book I wrote on the spiritual roots of Alcoholics Anonymous. The basic materials came from my interviews of, and correspondence with Dr. Bob's children, Sue Smith Windows and Robert R. Smith (who are now 81 years of age). The word in A.A. was that Dr. Bob's extensive library had been given away; but I found that his two children each had about half of his books. I examined them, obtained copies, and listed their authors and subject matter. These are the books that Dr. Bob read, studied, recommended, and circulated among early A.A.'s and their families. They cover the Bible, Bible meditation books, prayer, healing, the Oxford Group, religion and the mind, and the works of Bob's favorite authors such as Henry Drummond (The Greatest Thing in the World), Glenn Clark, E. Stanley Jones, Oswald Chambers, and so on. If you want to know where the basics for the ideas A.A. took from the Bible came from, this book will answer your questions and also show you the deep "spirituality" in the readings by Dr. Robert Holbrook Smith, co-founder of A.A. The Third Edition adds to the books discovered, adds to the bibliography and annotations, and adds to the knowledge of Dr. Bob's youth.
