Raphael and Bolognese give very abbreviated how-to instructions for drawing some representative figures and objects from ancient Roman history. A Roman foot soldier, the heads of Augustus and Constantine, a Roman citizen, the Colosseum, and a chariot driver are among the projects represented. In most cases, two or three steps are shown, as well as a semi-finished drawing that is not in color. The full-colored illustrations are attractive and authentic looking, but the historical commentary is so sketchy that this book's only use will be to show readers how to illustrate their reports on ancient Rome. The glossary is incomplete. --Patricia Homer, Lowville Academy, NYBook Details
