Gr 3-6As in Drawing Dinosaurs (Sterling, 1994), young artists are shown how to draw many complex figures using a framing technique. By initially creating a grid, a sample drawing can be broken down into smaller, more manageable segments and replicated. Goyallon gives instructions for sketching 30 primitive and prehistoric mammals and one Neanderthal man. Familiar animals such as mastodon and sabre-toothed tiger are included as are more obscure creatures like Baluchitherium and Macrauchenia. Added bonuses are the brief information provided about each mammal and introductions to geology, paleontology, and evolution. Youngsters who want to learn more about these animals will also appreciate the inclusion of these mammals' scientific names.Rachel Fox, Port Washington Public Library, NY
