Children's Literature - Melissa Hower

This book is part of the "Learning Props" series. It teaches children about clothing, shoes, and accessories. Children will enjoy the pictures as they recognize and name clothing items. The book is divided into categories to show items that babies wear, things worn on the hands, feet, and head, and things worn on the top and bottom of the body. There are also pages that address what one might wear when it is warm and when it is cold, as well as types of things that would be worn at bedtime and playtime. In addition, the book includes pages that show what girls might wear and what boys might wear. At the end of the book there is a page that children can use to practice matching clothing items and a page in which children can review what they have learned. A list of pronunciations for all of the words found throughout the book is included. The book contains realistic photographs of many items children see each day such as gloves, pants, and shoes, as well as some items children might not be familiar with such as hockey skates and suspenders. The colorful pictures and labels below each picture make this book a great resource for expanding vocabulary. With over one hundred photographs, this book will keep children engaged and offers a wealth of opportunities for adults to ask questions to extend learning. Reviewer: Melissa Hower
