Eight recent influential research studies on deviant behavior illustrate the two current trends toward longitudinal studies, and studies of the covariation of such behavior as violence, drug abuse, and theft. They consider common and pattern-specific antecedents and consequences, reciprocal influences, and intervening and moderating variables in causal relationships among the different forms of deviance. Four of the studies were presented in earlier versions at the annual Society of Criminology meeting in New Orleans, November 1992. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
