School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up-This fact-packed volume presents the problem of drunk driving in the U.S. and solutions underway to stem effects. Subsections discuss background from 1960s complacency to the 1980s revolutionary rise of social and political groups against drunk driving, personal tragedies, and possible solutions and their legal implications. The essays examine age, gender, and psychological factors as possible target areas for program and law development. The information has been gathered from the Internet, books, government documents, etc. Though it is dry, the format and style are both clear and concise. Other books on the market that are equally good, if presented from slightly different angles, include Nathan Aaseng's Teens and Drunk Driving (2000) and Lisa Wolff's Issues in Alcohol (1998, both Lucent). A solid starting point for research on this subject.-Kim Harris, Newman Riga Library, Churchville, NY Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
