Gr 6-8 There is a great deal of information about Eisenhower's career in these pages, although little sense of the man himself comes through. After a very brief chapter on Eisenhower's boyhood, Van Steenwyk details his West Point years, his various responsibilities as a young officer, his leadership of the armed forces in the European theater, and his presidency, with only occasional reference to his family life. There are many allusions that may be too sophisticated for this level reader: Foch, Clausewitz, lend-lease, etc., (although the term G.I. is defined); and there are no maps to help students to identify the European battle sites. But for a chronological retelling of Eisenhower's career, libraries may find this biography useful. Susan F. Marcus, Pollard Middle Sch . , Needham, Mass.Book Details
