Synopsis
A diverse group of 10 essays explore issues of technology diffusion and creation, with a somewhat greater emphasis on Indian and other Asian settings than is typical for books found in Europe or the US (no doubt a reflection of the editors' backgrounds at the Indian institutions the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre Advanced Scientific Research and the Indian Institute of Science). Among the topics explored are Japanese eras of technology adoption, the role of new materials in technology invention, technology's role in using up natural resources, and the role of research and development in industrial competition.
