Gr 6 Up This unique, pragmatic book provides a wealth of information about professional theater for young people determined to make itnot someday, but now . Using ten case studies of young successes, from a five year old to Matthew Broderick (who probably will attract a wider readership than the other young thespians), Williamson shows a wide variety of theatrical experiences: regional theater, summer stock, touring companies, dinner theater and Broadway. Far from being starry-eyed, the book shows the struggles, improbability and disappointments in such a career choice but offers advice for those who are still determined. The introduction gives a quick overview of theatrical tradition. The appendixes are jammed with specific resources such as the address of Actors Equity and a long list of schools with good theater-training programs. The clear, straightforward writing will make this accessible to students younger that the intended junior high audience, while the detailed information will make it useful for older students. This is definitely a winner for career reports. Sally T. Margolis, Town and Country Day School, Kensington, Md.
