Overview

Earthquake Resistant Design For Engineers and Architects Second Edition David J. Dowrick This is the second edition of a book which has proved useful to large numbers of engineers and architects since it was first published. The author's aim is to present the subject of earthquake resistant design from the standpoint of a designer wishing to gain an overall view of the entire process, from the nature of loading through to the details of construction. The procedures used in practice are explained in relation to their theoretical basis, and extensive references are given so that readers can follow this up further if they wish. This second edition reflects the progress made since the original publication of the book in 1977. There has been substantial revision and enlargement, particularly in the treatment of seismotechnics, hazard analysis, design earthquakes, design philosophy, base isolation and geotechnical engineering. Like the first edition, this volume is international in outlook, with examples taken from throughout the world. The book is distinguished by the unified approach the author has brought to a large and often disparate field, and this makes it invaluable to all engineers, architects, and seismologists working in earthquake resistant design, whether they be practitioners, researchers or students.
