The Sears are authors of eleven books on parenting featuring the "attachment parenting" style of child rearing. Based on connectedness, and love and trust, the approach is used in this book to help parents "shape young tastes" right from the start. Modeling good nutrition habits and allowing only nutritious foods in the home are the strategies used. With attractive cartoon-like illustrations, the text explains the old adage, 'you are what you eat' and goes further by setting up a system that first, parents, then children can adopt to monitor the foods they eat. Red, yellow and green lights represent all food groups: green being foods that enhance health, yellow means not too many, and red, of course, means these foods are not good for you. Occasional boxed texts provide additional nutritional guidelines. The importance of vitamins, minerals, fiber and water to our health is discussed so that even young children can understand. With obesity in children on the rise, parents need to make informed decision on educating their children on the foods that they eat daily. This book could help, if parents, themselves, are willing to set a good example. Several recipes and a small poster are included. 2002, Little Brown, Ages Adult.β Meredith Kiger, Ph.D.
