The books feature double-page topic treatments, each with numerous illustrations that are clearly labeled and accompanied by extensive captions. Portraits of scientists and biographical notes on their contributions to their fields are included. Electronics describes the changes in machines from pre-electric times to the modern world of computers with portable satellite terminals, facsimiles, VCR remote controls, command and communication centers on aircraft carriers, and other technological innovations. Explanations of the scientific principles that underlie these advances are also offered.
