Synopsis

Using a variety of perspectives, methodologies and languages, 17 international linguists report research findings on "reverse" or "backward" transfer—the effects of the second language (L2) on the first (L1)— in second language acquisition. A sampling of topics includes the changing L1 in the L2 user's mind, the influence of L2 on L1 collocational knowledge, L2 influence on L1 narratives, L1 and L2 interaction in requesting behaviors, and code-mixing and blending in L1 output of long-term resident overseas EFL teachers. Distributed by UTP Distribution. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
