Children's Literature - Susan Hepler

This volume in the "Countries of the World" series views modern day Egypt in three sections. The first features general information on culture, climate, geography, one double-page spread on ancient history, and daily life in a variety of locations. The second is "a closer look" at religions, clothes and the veil, relationships and disputes with neighboring countries, farming on the Nile, and so forth. The third section, which is the shortest, discusses Egypt's relationship with the U.S. with emphasis on the last thirty years. Well-captioned and exceptionally clear photographs portray a variety of people going to school, working, playing, and conducting business both in the city and in villages. The last section includes a labeled map of Egypt and a blank one, as well, to duplicate, "Egypt at a Glance" facts, a glossary, and index.
