Part of the "Wild Canines!" series, this book explores the many magnificent attributes of wolves. Native Americans respect them for their amazing strength and ability to survive, and after reading this book, one cannot help but to admire these wild animals. Physical traits such as their excellent sense of hearing and smell, their well-developed system of oral communication, and the complex social conduct of members in a group are all topics discussed in the book, as are hunting, mating, and birthing behaviors. Special boxes of text also introduce readers to the government programs designed to increase the numbers of endangered groups and to the potential danger of breeding wolves as pets. Large, glossy photographs are always accompanied by captions, and additional resources relating to wolves are listed in the back of the book. Complete with a table of contents, index, and glossary, would make excellent educational material in any classroom or library. 2002, Blackbirch Press, Ages 7 to 10.β Ramirose Attebury Wendt
