Overview
Introduces the basic principles of electronics, such as resistance, current, and voltage and describes the function of electronic components. Project ideas include a crystal radio, a general purpose alarm, an intercom, a light dimmer, and a pair of electronic dice.Instructions for a variety of projects illustrating the principles of electronics.

Gr 9-12-- In addition to presenting various projects, this book discusses Ohm's Law using simple mathematics, and defines a host of components (from resistors to integrated chips) and their schematic symbols. The activities range from the time-honored crystal radio to sophisticated (and interesting) circuits for electronic dice and an intercom. The projects are clearly outlined with all the necessary materials listed. Where appropriate, adequate safety warnings are included. However, because the projects escalate quickly in complexity (e.g., from crystal radios to power supplies connected to potentially dangerous household current), adult supervision or previous experience is strongly advised. The black-and-white illustrations range from circuit diagrams to scattered--and sometimes blurry--photographs. --Alan Newman, American Chemical Society, Washington, DCBook Details
