Synopsis
This work is cited in Books for College Libraries, 3d ed. and is a reprint of the 1932 translation (from German) published by Macmillan. In this companion to Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Standpoint: Geometry, Klein approaches topics within simple arithmetic, algebra and analysis with the same precision and rigor usually associated with higher mathematics. He begins with arithmetic, including calculating with natural numbers, the first extension of the notion of number, the special properties of integers, and complex numbers. He continues with algebra, including real equations with real unknowns, and equations in the field of complex quantities. He follows this with analysis, including logarithmic and exponential functions and calculus. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
