Synopsis

This reference for advanced students as well as scientists and X-ray professionals presents the basics of modern X-ray physics and considers the new opportunities offered by synchrotron radiation. The text is based upon a lecture course taught by the authors at the U. of Copenhagen. Coverage includes X-rays and their interaction with matter, sources of X-rays, refraction and reflection from interfaces, diffraction by perfect crystals, kinematical diffraction, photoelectric absorption, and resonant scattering. There is very little coverage of the subject of imaging or on other subjects, such as classical crystallography, that are well described in other texts.
